To be honest I'm not much of a wordsmith so went for the first title that came to mind that involved walking. Because this is a blog about walking. Specifically, walking a long way in remote parts of Britain. (Mind you I do like cats and spy novels, so walking back the cat is as good a title as any I guess).
2020 sees me looking to complete the whole of the Greensand Way, a long distance footpath that runs from Haslemere in Surrey in the West, to Hamstreet, near Ashford in Kent in the East. About 110 miles (178.4km).

It would be foolhardy to attempt this in one go; I have a full time job and a cat to feed after all. As such, I'm going to divvy it up into 10 sections of around 16-20km each (10-12 miles), walking West to East. To save my long suffering partner from having to ferry me to and from start and end points, wherever possible I will start and end close to public transport options which will to a large extent define the length of sections. (There may still be some ferrying required!).
Surrey, Sussex and Kent are amazing places to walk; just look at all these photos by way of evidence. Of course I would say that, I live there, but there are parts of this corner of England that remain gloriously unspoilt, and I often stumble on little bits of history that would otherwise have remained hidden.
This blog exists in part to track this, and any other of my distance walking exploits; watch out for some walking in Wales with my inestimable chum Morwenna, and maybe an introduction to my MIL (a distance walking nut) when I occasionally join her in Kent.
I'm also hoping this blog might perhaps act as a bit of a guide for anyone wanting to discover some of these walking routes. For each post I'll include useful info and as many maps and waypoints as i can muster, as well as the other practical things I would like to know; flasks of tea required, number of bananas one should carry, horrible hill climbs etc.
Anyway, first stage this coming weekend, 18th January 2020. Watch this spot for updates!
In the meantime, here's a photo of a cat.
